Guess I oughta put Alex back in the toybox for a bit now before Mulder gets
jealous...<sigh>. Oh yeah...the guy's Russian, by heritage at least, right,
so let's assume he knows a little Russian poetry. Hey, indulge me... <g>

Mulder calls again from Dulles: she sets the phone down and turns red-rimmed
eyes on me, announcing flatly "He's back."

I sit across the room, wanting desperately to go to her. Inertia holds me in
its grip. Even though she uncuffed me, gave me my freedom, the night we
violated each other, I feel as if I can never move again. I am that body,
somewhere beyond the farthest star, perfectly at rest.

"Krycek...Alex..." I hear her taste the name, reject it. I can never be Alex
to her.

"I'll go." I stand, amazed to find my body able to leave her. I can't
resist...on my way to the door I stoop, kiss her cheek, whisper a line
of Akhmatova into her ear.

"To keep alive the wonder of suffering, you have been metamorphosed into
me."

The first hot tear drips down her cheek as I turn away. After these days of
torture, motion resumes.
